Abstract Background A properly conducted surgical informed consent process SIC allows patients to authorize an invasive procedure with full comprehension of relevant information including involved risks. Current practice of SIC may differ from the ideal situation. The aim of this study is to evaluate whether SIC practiced by Dutch general surgeons and residents is adequate with involvement of all required elements. Methods All members of the Dutch Society of Surgery received an online multiple choice questionnaire evaluating various aspects of SIC. Residents performance was inferior compared to surgeons regarding most aspects of daily practice of SIC. Surgical residents require training aimed at improving awareness and skills.
He’s had a viper’s sense of timing through two games so far this season, especially when the disc is in his hands, attacking quickly and ferociously when the defense is most vulnerable. He leads the team in assists 13 , goals 9 , completions 87 , and points played 65 , somehow functioning as the team’s quarterback and its most dangerous downfield threat. With the exceptions of maybe Jimmy Mickle, Tyler Degirolamo, Dylan Freechild, and a healthy Kurt Gibson, it’s hard to imagine a player with as much individual impact on each point he plays than Rasmussen.

This new partnership will mean far more national exposure for the entire league and likely more opportunities for the Breeze as well. The Breeze have appeared in the AUDL Game of the Week six times since its inception in , posting a overall record including a home record and a road clip. Following is a recap and video link for all six Games of the Week that have featured the Breeze over the past four seasons.
What will bring? Hopefully a couple more appearances, and a couple more wins. June 28, at Montreal Royal After a inaugural season in , the Breeze leapt out to a start in and were on the verge of clinching a playoff spot before their trip north to face the Royal. Nevertheless, the Breeze leapt out to an early lead, and extended their advantage with a run to start the second quarter, going up midway through the period. What had looked like a challenging road test for a shorthanded team had become a successful first half.
The third quarter was much more even and high-scoring than the first two, with eight points for each team leaving the Breeze on top, heading into the final 12 minutes. A run to start the fourth gave D. The Breeze clinched the first playoff berth in team history at the expense of the Royal, who effectively saw their playoff hopes dashed with the loss. After the Royal broke to take a lead at the start of the game, the Breeze never trailed again en route to their eighth win of the year.

Advanced Search Abstract Objective To examine how children’s and mother’s appraisals of each other’s involvement in coping with diabetes events are associated with emotional adjustment. Methods One hundred and twenty-seven children ages 10—15 years with type 1 diabetes and their mothers reported on their own emotional adjustment and how each other was involved in coping strategies surrounding diabetes stressful events.
Results Appraisals that mothers and children were uninvolved with each other’s stressors were associated with greater depressive symptoms and less positive mood; children’s appraisals of mother’s supportive involvement with children’s less depressive symptoms, and appraisals of collaborative involvement with less depressive symptoms and more positive mood for both mothers and children.
Appraised control was most detrimental for children for older females and for mothers of younger children. Conclusions Collaborative involvement in coping efforts may be an important resource for addressing negative emotions that both children and mothers experience surrounding type 1 diabetes, especially across adolescence.
Children’s depressive symptoms are associated with poorer diabetes adherence, glycemic control, and increased risk of hospitalization Dantzer et al. In addition, parents may also benefit emotionally by the involvement of their children as parents and children jointly cope with stressful events surrounding the illness. The present study explored the ways that mothers and children appraise each other’s involvement in coping efforts involving the child’s type 1 diabetes during adolescence and whether supportive and collaborative involvement are associated with better emotional adjustment for both children and mothers.
As children and parents cope with stressors surrounding type 1 diabetes e. The same behavior e. Our previous work Wiebe et al. When children appraised mothers as collaborators in diabetes stressors better adherence and metabolic control existed; appraisals of mothers as uninvolved were associated with poorer adherence and diabetes quality of life.

July 5, vs New York Much of the Breeze season was characterized by the four-game regular season series with the New York Empire. It was difficult to pick out a star player but most certainly the surprise return of Michael Williams into the midfield helped considerably in on chances alone, for a deserved Matlock win. The hosts, unbeaten at home, had sixty per cent of the play, showed some nice touches but lacked penetration while on the other hand, Matlock again created a glut of opportunities but had only a 58th minute penalty from top scorer Shaun Harrad to show for their efforts.
This time though, it was enough as Matlock cut out the schoolboy errors which have led to their demise so far. Phil Barnes had a relatively comfortable afternoon between the sticks and was only seriously tested once, such was the efficiency shown by those in front of him. There was early cause for concern though as David Symington, converted to an attacking left back from a winger, was allowed too much space out on the left as the Reds used the width of the Borough Park pitch.
An early Symington strike fell wide before Sam Joel set up Jordan Holt whose effort met the same fate. From an attacking point of view, the outlook looked brighter for Matlock with two quick opportunities midway through the half. But it proved that Matlock looked well capable of breaking through and another chance went begging on the stroke of half time. An error from Symington let in Harrad in a one on one with Taylor.
Harrad opted to chip the Reds number one but Taylor stepped back to claim the ball above his head. Williams had been a revelation, a willingness to run and some smart passing let the visiting fans know what they had been missing as his relationship with Joe Doyle-Charles was back in harness. Barnes held an early second half shot from Joel before HARRAD netted for the fourth successive game and a third penalty in three games.
Wordsworth stuck out a lazy leg to bring down the twisting Cribley for an obvious penalty which was powerfully blasted down the centre of goal. Matlock had something to fight for and for an initial ten minutes they survived a rocky spell as they fell deeper into defence.

The House met at Introductions by Members J. It’s a real privilege and a pleasure for me to rise and introduce an award-winning Canadian journalist, Mohamed Fahmy, and his wife, Marwa Omara, who are with us today in the gallery. Members of this House will be aware that Mohamed was recently pardoned after he and two other journalists were arrested in in Egypt by Egyptian authorities and unjustly jailed for days. Courageously, Mohamed has made his way to British Columbia.
Motivated by his experiences behind bars in Egypt, Mohamed and Marwa have established the Fahmy Foundation to provide financial assistance and advocacy for reporters and photographers unjustly imprisoned worldwide — a tremendous and, again, a courageous undertaking by Mohamed and his supporters. He has recently arrived in British Columbia to take up his role as the global reporting journalist at the University of British Columbia’s journalism school and to be a fellow at UBC’s Centre for Applied Ethics — a role, of course, that was started before he was imprisoned.
It is a real pleasure and a privilege that the Fahmys have chosen British Columbia to be their home and to continue their work of advocacy for justice and ethics, internationally and starting right here at the University of British Columbia. Would the House please make them both very welcome. She is joined by our staff Jamie Deitch and Lisa Nakamura.
